My second home, Jakarta. Now having the size of population as the fourth in the whole world, Jakarta is a mega city in the Southeast Asia. There are so many skyscrapers built one after another, yet there are many slums scattered throughout the city, too. Flooding in the rainy season, countless cars, traffic jam, heavenly taste of tropical fruits are all small moments that define Jakarta.
Green Tea
I was super surprised by how sweet green tea is compared to the one in Tokyo. It tastes as if you put a whole spoon full of sugar!
Angklung
A traditional Javanese instrument that looks like a xylophone. The sound is soft and deep, and is relaxing.
Ragunan Zoo
A zoo in the heart of Jakarta. I often went there to jog inside the zoo.
Jakarta International School
My middle school and high school. It was the school established by two UN workers.
Pedestrians
There are many people who sells things along the street. Sometimes you see people in interesting fashion, too.
Chung Gi Wa
Every Saturday, it was a family routine to explore different cuisine. Our favorite was always Taiwanese and Korean food.
Selamat Datang Statue
An iconic statue that was made for Youth Olympics in 1964. “Selamat Datang” means “Welcome” in Indonesian.
Pondok Indah Mall
One of the most popular places for teenager to hang out. PIM has three different parts, and usually you bump into someone you know every time you go there.
Jakarta and the traffic
Because everyone commute by their own car, Jakarta’s traffic was once said to be the worst in the world. It is beautiful in the night, though!
Shangri-la Hotel
One of the most luxurious hotels. My dad used to tell me that he used to invite his coworkers from Japan to this hotel.
